I have a 10 week old daughter and have questions?

okay so my daughter is 10 weeks old. And i have a few questions about some things.
1. She is currently on Good Start Soy formula, but everytime she drinks it afterwards i will burp her real good but she will still…not spit it up but like it comes shootin out of her mouth. She eats 5 ounces like the doctor ordered and i even cut it back to 4 ounces but that doesn’t change anything. I recently tried the Similac Soy formula and she did better with that then she was with Good Start but she was still spitting up but not as much. I thought about calling her doctor to change her formula but i just don’t know if that’s the thing i should be doing. What do yall think? Or what do yall recommend?

2. When should i start placing my baby on her tummy to lay down or to sleep? I am very very scared because of the whole S.I.D.S situation.

3. What are some home remedies for Cradle cap & Eczema?
She has cradle cap bad near the edges of her hair and her face gets really dried out. Ive did vaseline it helped on her face. She also has eczema on her arms, fingers, hands, back, and etc.

    1. I didn’t feed Josiah formula, but he would spit up like that too. Projectile! My mom says that I used to do it too, on occasion, all over other people. It’s just what some babies do. Some spit up more than others. I know some mothers who keep a bib constantly on their baby because they spit up so much. As long as she’s growing well and not cranky cause she’s hungry, I wouldn’t worry about it.
    2. Josiah is still sleeping on his back, he can’t sleep on his tummy. But my parents put all of us on our tummies to sleep (four kids) and none of us died from SIDS. It’s up to you. For babies with colic they actually recommend sleeping on their tummy.
    3. For cradle cap, it’s not a home remedy, but we use baby oil and apply it at every bath and wash it off gently scrubbing. We bought a baby brush and we scrub gently in circles like that. He had cradle cap and doesn’t and has been cradle cap free for 5 months. Cradle cap is because the oil glands in baby’s scalps haven’t regulated yet so you need to add some oil.

Babies spit up. It doesn’t sound that severe to me. It’s normal for them to have spit-up, even after every bottle. I don’t think it’s a formula issue.

Not on her tummy to sleep! It’s on her back to sleep to prevent SIDS. You can and should put her on her tummy to play so she will start working on those muscles, but don’t put her on her tummy to sleep unless you are awake and watching her.

Cradle cap sounds like you are doing the right thing. It is just one of those things. It will clear up. Check with your doctor on eczema. They can determine the best course of action.

    1. Talk to your doctor about the formula, she could have acid reflux or something else that is causing the problem and the doctor is the one that can really be sure. You should never change your baby’s formula without the doctor’s ok! Their system’s are not adjusted for that kind of change yet.

    2. It is to early for her to sleep on her tummy, but you can place her on her tummy for a little play time. it gets them moving their arms and legs and prepares for crawling, but only do this if she is holding her head up. Again, make sure your doctor is happy with her progress.

    3. Eucerin (sp?) lotion is good for cradle cap and eczema, that is what I had to use on my son and still do. Also, Grins n’ Giggles lotion works really well and smells great.

    1. Speak to the doctor, projectile vomiting could be a sign of pyloric stenosis or something else.
    2. You place babies on their back to sleep, always. She can have tummy time when she is awake.
    3. Speak to the doctor about a medicated wash for her skin and scalp.

I have a 6 month old who spits up constantly!! He has had his milk changed several times and it did not do anything. The Dr said as long as he keeps gaining weight then he is fine. Its more of a nuisance than anything else. The only thing that helped a little was when I could put cereal in his bottle, that makes it a little better.

As far as SIDS I have 3 kids and I always placed them the way that they seemed the most comfortable even if it was the tummy. I only had 1 that liked to sleep on the tummy.

One of my daughters had eczema and I used Melaleuca products and it cleared right up.

    1) babies spit up. thats what they do lol.

    2) dont put her on her tummy until shes a year old, that being said, one day you might walk into her room and find her on her tummy. sometimes they do it themselves.

3.) Disney brand baby eczema cream. its a lifesaver!

Vaseline doesnt really do anything for dryness. it will protect your baby from cold and moisture but it wont heal whats already there. and it can clog pores.

    1. I feel your pain. My 5 week old daughter has acid reflux so spit up is bad here. But Goodstart Gentle ease has been very good to us. Enfamil tore her up so bad.

    2. I don’t think its ever recommended that your baby sleep on her tummy. Her back is what pediatricians recommend, and on her side is another one I’ve heard pediatricians recommend.
Now as far as being on her tummy to play for like Tummy time, you can start now. Its very good to help strengthen her muscles. My daughter has been doing tummy time since she was able to hold her head up for several minutes at a time. She has been rolling over since she was 3 and a half weeks of age (from tummy to back) and she does this funny little army crawl wiggle now at 5 weeks. (its not a real crawl but she loves to kick those feet and she can move pretty far doing that

    3. The best thing you can do for eczema is contact your daughters pediatrician he may be able to give you something to help clear it up. (my sister had eczema it didn’t clear up until she was nearly 3.) Other than that good old Johnsons baby wash and warm water. Just keep her bathed. We had been bathing our daughter every other day but after the acid reflux got bad we were told go ahead and bathe her every day and just use a teeny bit of baby lotion if her skin starts to get dry. Its helped clear up her baby acne I think as well

I don’t know about cradle cap

Good luck, I’m a new mom too so feel free to message me if you have any more questions that I might be able to help with

If she’s projectile vomiting after every feed, then that is either an indication of reflux or pyloric stenosis, either way it should be brought up to your doctor immediately. Personally, if she did better on Similac Soy then I would just make the change. If you’re uncomfortable about an immediate switch then start adding the similac to the good start and upping the ration every day or two until it’s completely similac.

You’ve received good answers in the tummy issue, I never put mine down until she could turn over on her own AND lift her head up when laying on her stomach…she ended up on her stomach anyway. I was just careful to keep blankets and toys out of the crib.

The eczema is a massive pain in babies. Why are you feeding your baby soy? That much eczema could be an allergy (soy, detergents) but it’s usually a reaction to some kind of irritator. Try using detergent for sensitive skin for the baby (dye free and perfume free) and start giving her a quick bath every day. My daughter has horrible eczema and I’ve found that if she doesn’t get bathed every day then the eczema just gets that much worse. Immediately after the tub use Aveeno baby moisturizing cream all over the body and hydrocortisone cream on spots until spots are gone. You really have to maintain a good moisture level on her skin to keep the eczema at bay.

For cradle cap get a baby brush and brush her hair in all directions to loosen up the crud right before a bath, then wash her hair. Or you could take a fine toothed comb and gently comb her scalp to do the same thing. Either way loosens it up and bathing gets rid of it. Keep it up for a couple days and it will all be gone.
