How do you treat Eczema?

I think my son may have a slight case of eczema, there’s only a couple of patches on his body nothing too major. He doesn’t seem to be in pain and none of them are very red. How do I get rid of it? I know the doctor said something about steroid cream but I’m not sure if I wanna do that. Are there any home remedies for it? And does it spread?

My daughter had it. Sometimes the best thing to heal it is time, but we did a few other things as well that really helped. We switched to Cetaphil soap and lotion and used nothing else! Even the baby wash and lotions contain ingredients that are too harsh for baby eczema. We also used an otc hydrocortisone cream on affected areas, twice a day. It won’t harm your baby if you only use it until the patches are gone. It is mild and it does help! Also washing baby’s clothes, and anything else that touches baby’s skin (towels, wash cloths, burp cloths, etc.) in either dreft or All free and clear. Do all of this and you should see an improvement in a week or two.

To get a special type of cream, you’ll have to go to the doctor, because I know that my cream came from the pharmecy. But rubbing a little Vaseline on it helps a lot too.

You prefer natural? From what I found by trying to go natural with my daughter’s skin issues (KP, not Eczema, but came across more Eczema stuff), was that Eczema is a reaction due to an allergy. A huge percentage of Eczema patients also have asthma ?(another allergy symptom). Should you be breastfeeding, I suggest doing an elimination diet. In addition, add DHA to your diet, and baby will get it. If you are not breastfeeding, you might have to switch formulas, for a month or two to see if it was the problem.

find out what is causing it
turned out that my son is allergic to chicken, eggs, milk and nuts.

The steroid cream will get rid of it but once you stop using it, it will come back if he is still getting the thing(s) he is allergic to.

I use a hydrocortizone cream and it helps, also benedryl and aquaphor.

My daughter has it and I went to Walgreens and bought Natural Gentle Baby Eczema Cream by Baby Disney. It’s great! It’s about 9 dollars for a tube. They also have a body wash as well.

Check out the link. It gives reviews by other parents as well. Good luck!

my daughter has mild eczema too, she’s 19 months old. I’ve found that giving her oatmeal baths soothe it a lot as well as moisturizing the area with a fragrance free lotion.
