How do I treat my baby girls eczema?

My daughter is 14 months old and has had eczema since she was born. It was only on her arms and some parts of her legs but now it has spread to almost all parts of her body. I have tried washing her in Baby Aveeno, Aquaphor, Vaseline, Hydrocortizone, Dove for Sensitive skin & Cetaphil. I’m out of options. I recently tried using Eucerin again after her bath and she screamed when after I put it on her.

Also, are there any natural ways to cure her? She has developed dark patches of it on her stomach, legs, arms, back, & butt.

I have very mild excema on my upper arms, I take very good care of it though, so you wouldn’t even know! Since she is just a baby though….it may be a little more difficult. what i can suggest is dilluting some selsum blue in her bath, making sure you only get her bad areas, not on her face or head. Use a pine soap bar too!Put pure cocoa butter on her every chance you get. don’t get anything scented. i think it’s palmer’s cocoa butter. Here are some further links that may help! Oatmeal Bath

When baby’s skin gets very itchy, an oatmeal bath can be very soothing and help skin heal. Put two cups of oats in a food processor (or use a coffee grinder or blender) and grind them into a powder. Add the oatmeal powder to a running bath of warm (not hot) water and stir well. Soak in the oatmeal bath for 15 minutes, rinse with clean water and dab the skin dry with a soft towel. When baby’s eczema breakouts are bad, it is safe to sooth them with an oatmeal bath twice daily. You may also add some milk and honey for moisturizing right in with the bath water. Since she’s a baby, you may want to do this in the kitchen sink where there is a garbage disposal….if not, it’s fine, just clean out the tub.

My son was the same way. His pediatrician put him on a topical steroid for two weeks than said every time he got a bath to put Vaseline or heavy lotion on him directly after the bath to hold in moisture and it worked. Maybe since nothing else has worked, see the doc than treat with the lotions or Vaseline.

something else I’ve used that seems to help is Baby powder… my daughter has eczema on mostly on her butt.. but she gets it behind her knees and on her arms too.. you might want to also try switching deptergents and use only free and clear stuff for awhile..I use dove on my daughter and then I put baby magic on her and if shes wearing a diaper ( shes potty training) then I put baby powder in her diaper.. I’ve had to use the topical steroids as well.. to get it cleared up enough so I could keep it contained with the aquaphor and and lotion…

I was born with severe eczema and this is what my mom did to make it better.

Stay away from hot water, it makes the skin dried out. And soap makes it worse also. Just use soap in the important areas. keep soap away from the infected regions.

If you live somewhere cold then go buy a room humidifier to add moisture in the air. We had one when I lived in Colorado.

When I would get a bad break out after luke warm baths my mom would cover me with vasaline put wet PJs on me and dry ones on top. (that’s what the doctor told her to do)

The reason why she’s probably screaming is because sometimes the creams will burn, because it’s usually broken skin. And eczema causes the skin to produce more Staph than the average person so be careful with her because she is more likely to get staph infection. I had it on my whole body when i was 1 and had to be hospitalized. Thats when the doc told my mom about the wet PJs.

I’m allergic to lotions with Lanolin in it. That’s what always made my skin burn.

I’m sorry she has it. I only have it a little bit on my arms now and I’m 20. She will get better. When she gets older take her to an allergy doctor to get tested for skin allergins. She may be allergic to something in the house and you don’t even know it.

    Good luck!
