Eczema question???

My 6 year old has horrible eczema on his elbows, he scratches the little bumps until they bleed. I had tried medicated ointments, lotions, neosporin, and all kinds of other things. It only shows up with warmer weather, we live in lower alabama so it gets really hot here and the bumps get worse and worse. I have taken him to the doctor and she gives me cream that works for a bit and then it all comes back. Is there any home remedies that you know of or anything that will work to get rid of this? Thanks in advance!

My son had horrible eczema also. HAD.

Start using homemade soaps, especially ones that are high in olive oil.

Only use lotions that are free of:
    Mineral oil (blocks pores)
    Alcohol (drys skin)
    Animal products like Lanolin
    Urea (Urine)

If you can’t find this, which is hard,
Focus on using pure olive oil, or castor oil, or shea butter

They make a steroid ointment that usually cures it for good

OK. I had this problem so bad that I went to a specialist and they said that it was one of the worst he had ever seen.

Aquaphor Healing Ointement. It feels really gross. Take 2 showers each day (morning and night) and put LOTS of it on afterwords. I guarantee it will be gone in 3 weeks.

    ALL of it.

Eczema is a condition affected by your immune system. As your child age, there will be modifications within his/her immune system and it can get better or it can remain with him for the rest of his life.

First off I will stop the neosporin. Due to the weather, try to stay cool because the vaporization of sweat can actually dry the skin which triggers eczema. I would choose a moisturizer that does not contain irritants and keep the skin hydragted. Vaseline works well at retaining moisture but only apply after BATHS (not showers). When you give him/her showers, water remains within the superficial layer of the skin and the vaporization of the water will dry the skin. Also, the vaseline won’t have an opportunity to trap the water. When you give him/her a bath, there is an opportunity for water to absorb deep within the skin and the vaseline can keep the water in. Previously mentioned before was Aquaphor, it looks like vaseline and it has some water content in it and you can use that as well.

If the soars appear, apply some hydrocortisone 0.5% on it. Try to apply once your child starts itching. Creams I recommend is either Glaxal Base or Clinaderm and anything that does not contain lanolin. Lanolin is actually an irritant to many.

Also go to the doctor and ask for an antihistamine. This will prevent the itching. Usually childrens reactine will work well however you will have to give it daily because these medications are use to prevent itch from happening in the first place and not to treat the itch once fully manifested.

Any questions feel free to email me

hi i’m 12 yrs old and i had really terrible eczema make sure that he has showers lots of times when he sweats. you can buy this product for warm weather it contains a gas water in hot weather you can spray it on to cool him. little expensive. erm never put stuff from the freezer on to the ezema only things from friges freezer is to cold. after showers try putting this cream called fucidin h cream. you’ll probably need a precrisption. if he scrates make sure he stopes he must not scratch! when he sleep open the windows a bit for air it helps a bit. all of this won’t get rid of ezema nothing can it helpes it only to go for about a couple of months then ta da! it’s back again. erm… let’s see. oh!! this helps a lot! use tea bags and just boil some water. put the tea bag into a metal tin enough for some water and the tea bag to fit. pour the water in and put it in the fridge. make it just cold not ice! and when it itches take it out and just take the tea bag out and put the tea bag on the elbow and leave it for about 10 minutes. it should not itch for a while. let’s see…. oh and check out this link that i found.http://www.freederm.com/

First you should find out what causes your son to break out. My son had a bad case. Tried all the treatments they all worked for short periods. I took him off all milk products and his eczema clear up. He was allergic to milk. You need to find out the source of the problem and then eliminate the problem.

I cannot reccomend a better product to use for your 6 year old than Bag Balm. It is a fantastic product that helps to protect the eczema and help it to heal at the same time.

When my little sister was about 5 years old, she would get horrible bouts of eczema and it was the only thing that worked. Eucerin also helped a little, but Bag Balm still blew it out of the water. It comes in a green tin can and can be found at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc.

Also, make sure that you let air get to the skin. If it’s on your child’s feet, for example, the worst thing you can do is allow your child to wear socks and get sweaty and/or warm. It thrives off of that. Here are some websites with some more suggestions for you as well. I wish you both the best.

I have it too. Mines has been undercontrol for almost 2 years now. Your going to have to go to a dermatologist to get this but for flare ups he needs Traimcinolone its an ointment and you need Protopic which is also an ointment to make it go away. You will notice a difference in two weeks. All that over the counter stuff isnt going to work.

I suggest that you use the herbal Cream from http://www.champori.com/eczema-relief.asp It is natural (steroid-free) and works well.
