Dealing with cradle cap in black infant?

How do I treat my newborn cradle cap issue. Not to be mean but he is African American and his scalp is very dry and he has lost hair as well. He has eczema as well.
I just mentioned that he is African American due to the fact his scalp is very dry and needs moisturized.

Although my daughter is not African American, she has very dry skin and eczema as well. We battled cradle cap for about 3 to 4 months. We applied the baby oil, let it set in a bit, then scrubbed with the hard plastic comb from the hospital; we did this routine every night, sometimes twice a day. It seemed to help some, but never got rid of it completely. We tried rubbing in a good amount of Cetaphil (which we had for her dry skin/eczema anyway) on the cradle cap, and in less than a week, it was gone! She is now the proud owner of a soft and smooth scalp. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you and your baby boy!

If you put baby oil on his scalp and lightly scratch and let it soak a few minutes before you wash it then it will help get some of the flakes out of it.

My daughter had cradle crap and I scrubbed the crap out of her head in the tub. Her doctor told me that was the only way to really get rid of it. Don’t worry about the hair falling out… scrub anyway.. hair falling out may not even be related to the cradle cap. Lots of babies lose hair after birth. I also used soap in the hair very sparingly… and put some Vaseline on it. It looks nasty and greasy with the Vaseline in it.. but it did seem to help… it’s moisturizing but not at all irritating.

My baby had the same problem. He is 4 months old and has his second case of cradle cap. My doctor said sometimes babies will get it 3 or 4 times. The first time I just washed his hair with the baby phisoderm like they use in the hospital, and gently massaged it with his baby brush while I was washing it. Then when I got him all dried off I just kept brushing it with the baby brush. By the time I was done the cradle cap was almost completely gone. He had already lost all of his hair on top but once we got rid of the cradle cap it started growing. This time its not as bad and you cant tell he has it and now its going away on its own and his hair is still growing. Now I just continue to rub lotion in his head cause his scalp is dry to.My sons dad is black. I dont think it makes a difference what race a baby is because almost all babies get cradle cap, people just treat it differently. You can find phisoderm at wal mart. Its body wash but you can use it to wash their hair to. He also had eczema, my doctor gave us hydrocortisone cream to rub wherever the breakouts were. It works great in just a couple of days it was gone. Whenever it looks like he is breaking out I just use that and its gone. I hope this answer helped you. GOOD LUCK
