Eczema on Scalp….HELP!!?

Question by NaNa: Eczema on Scalp….HELP!!?
I am a 35 year old female who was diagnosed with eczema on my hands about 5 years ago. I have since learned ways to keep the eczema on my hands at bay. I haven’t had any problems in a long time. But! About a year ago I started having problems with itching on my scalp. It has slowly gotten much worse. I went to my doctor and of course she gave me some cream thats like $ 177 a tube (insurance will NOT cover it either) after explaining that the eczema has now moved on to my scalp. I’m really trying to avoid having too spend so much $ on this medication, especially since I’m not even sure it’s going to work. Does anyone know of any home remedies? Good shampoos? I’ve tried “Neutrogena Tar Shampoo” & it did nothing. Then tried “Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment”-Nothing again. Any advice towards a possible solution to my MADNESS is so very appreciated. Thank You in advance.

Hello There,

Eczema on the scalp is somewhat rare, and often ends of being misdiagnosed case of psoriasis. I’m guessing your doctor gave you something like Dovobet, which runs in that price range. Ask your dermatologist or GP for a Rx or a sample of Xamiol. It is a liquid solution used to treat scalp psoriasis. It works like nothing ever before, however it is also pricey (sample!!). If the condition persists, I recommend a biopsy be done to rule out psoriasis.

There are also several other options, you could try something like DermaSmoothe. It works as well, but is way cheaper!

Give a few things a crack, but make sure they are liquids rather then cream, as you will NOT get the coverage required with a cream on the scalp!

Let me know how you make out!

Be well,

DD

Question by cdstock58: home remedies for itiching of eczema?
I was on interfon/copegus combo for 1 year (hep C treatment) About 6 months into it I started with a small patch on my chin which spread throughout my bottom lip all the way down to my collar bones, even the palm of my hands. I saw a dermatologists several times. After 3 rounds of different antibotics, serveral gels and ointments and stopping treatment it still remained. The itiching and buring drives me crazy. A friens at work gave me some Desonide 0.05% ointments that cleared it up within 3 to 5 days, but once I used it up it started coming back within 2 days in the same areas, but now it is on the back if my legs at the bend and the same on my arms. I am so tired of spending money for doctor visits and expensive medications. I have been doing it for a year. I thought once I got off treatment it would just go away. Please help I am desperate…

I’ve had eczema my entire life (my parents had me diagnosed after I repeatedly drug my arms and legs on the carpet to soothe the itching).

My mom would put regular oatmeal in a sock and tie it at the end and put it in my bath water.

After the bath she would put regular Crisco on my arms and legs, along with medicated powder, and then put long pants and a long sleeved shirt on me.

Hope this helps!
